Mello Vélo
Identity & Signage
2009
Sarah O'Mahoney and Steve Morris were basically the bike gurus around campus, when you couldn't make it to Bicycle (Crazy) Bob's house for a fix you could rely on Steve or Sarah to lend you a hand. So after graduation they took matters into their own hands and started their own bike shop where Syracuse had none. Mello Vélo is in it's first year and they have provided quite the home for cyclist and cruisers of the Onondaga County.

When they asked me to come up with some artwork for an identity I simpy looked back on all the great bike rides we have gone on and their friendly and unflagging hospitality. I wanted something classic looking, like the gold leaf type on a curve with two lawyers' names that you would see on a window in Saratoga Springs, mixed with a slightly out of place illustration of a friendly ambiguous bike rider, that i've simply come to refer to as Saffron.

A seperate custom logotype was created to be used without Saffron. It is based on a very geometric set of rules I created inspired by the old hand painted european bicycle company signs and logos.
